Direct welding by submerged arc on a refractory support allowing the production of long welded joints, notably for the support feet of oil and gas drilling platforms for marine applications

The production of hot welds by submerged arc on ceramic battens without repairs to the back consists of: (a) preparation on the reinforcement by machining or other process of the weld chamfers; (b) mechanical assembly of the three elements making up the rack/reinforcement; (c) positioning and retention of the ceramic battens inside the reinforcement to the right of the machined mouldings and the rack surfaces; (d) placing the assembly on a welding stand; (e) welding by submerged arc. An independent claim is also included for a device for putting this method into service, which allows the centering and retention of the elements making up the rack/reinforcement.
