PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a bactericidal composition, and to provide a method for using the bactericidal composition, for the purpose of disinfection and sterilization.;SOLUTION: The bactericidal composition contains a specified bactericidal dialdehyde and a specified salt of an efficacy-improving halide compound for improving efficacy of the dialdehyde, in one embodiment. The composition may, for example, contain water, phthalaldehyde, and a specified alkali metal salt of the halide compound for improving the efficacy of the phthalaldehyde. The specified bactericidal composition may contain a specified carbonated bactericidal solution containing the phthalaldehyde in a dissolved state in another embodiment.
