PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a miniaturized, light-weight, and easily manufactured surface plasmon resonance sensor, and a surface plasmon resonance sensor device using the same.;SOLUTION: This surface plasmon resonance sensor, made of glass fiber or plastic fiber, comprises a light guide body having an exit end face and an entrance end face which forms an inclination angle with the axial direction of the fiber, and a metallic thin film formed on a peripheral surface of the guide body. Light from a light source is let in from the entrance end face and caused to be totally reflected by an interface between the guide body and the thin film to generate surface plasmon on the surface of the thin film, causing reflected light from the thin film to exit from the exit end face. The use of glass fiber or plastic fiber as the guide body makes it possible to provide the light-weight, miniaturized, easily manufactured, and low-cost, resonance sensor.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
