PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer capable of carrying out ground design printing of various forms hard to forge and alter by a simple operation, and to provide a printing method of ground design printing to be carried out with the use of the thermal printer, and a ground design printing paper passed through the ground design printing hard to forge and alter.;SOLUTION: The thermal printer carries out printing while pressure holding a printing paper between a thermal head and a platen roller 7. A recess 23 is set at a surface 22 of a platen roller body part 20.
