PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a model initial shape preparing device for preparing the initial shape of a blank capable of preventing any short circuit phenomenon such as deflection and wrinkles generated during the press simulation. PSOLUTION: The model initial shape preparing device comprises a pattern shape determination unit 12 to determine whether the shape of a pattern surface with a blank placed thereon is upwardly projecting or downwardly projecting from the pattern shape data input from an input unit 11, an initial shape data calculation unit 13 to calculate the initial shape of the blank curved according to the determination of the pattern shape determination unit 12 in the range not exceeding the elastic range of the blank from the physical property data of the blank, and an initial shape preparing unit 14 to prepare an initial shape model of the blank to be used for the press simulation from the data on the calculated initial shape.
