PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for determining diagnosis, detection, monitoring, and prognosis of cancer related to an Epstein Barr virus (EBV) in a patient, by detecting or measuring an EBV DNA existing in serum or plasma of the patient and then conducting subtyping of an EBV polymorphism, and to provide a kit for the same. PSOLUTION: This method comprises determining expectation of the prognosis and the diagnosis of the cancer related to the EBV on the patient who has the EBV DNA in blood, wherein a step (a) for preliminarily screening the patient who has the EBV DNA described in the specification by using a sample of the serum or the plasma and a step (b) for confirming the expectation by determining a EBV subtype according to the polymorphism in the serum or the plasma are together combined and conducted or the step (b) is solely conducted in the method.
