PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the amount of industrial waste to be generated and the usage of activated carbon and consequently to reduce the cost necessary for treating the industrial waste and the used activated carbon, in a method for regenerating an adsorbent used in the equipment for treating a contaminant such as the sludge and soil contaminated with a halogenated organic compound such as polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB). PSOLUTION: The equipment for treating the contaminant contaminated with the halogenated organic compound is constituted so that the contaminant is heated under a reducing atmosphere and the halogenated organic compound in the exhaust gas generated from the contaminant is adsorbed on the adsorbent. The halogenated organic compound-adsorbed adsorbent is heated under the reducing atmosphere to desorb the adsorbate, which is then regenerated. PCOPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
