PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for reconstituting the shape and surface pattern of a three-dimensional scene by simply preparing a geometric shape model from the photographs of a building or the like without measuring the height and width of walls of practical building by a measure or the like. ;SOLUTION: A three-dimensional shape is reconstituted from a group of plural pictures obtained by photographing three-dimensional space from plural visual points (S202), the surface pattern of a uniform plane or a shape area similar to a plane is generated from one or plural pictures out of the group of plural pictures (S203), which area and position in the three-dimensional shape correspond to the surface pattern is specified (S204), and the surface pattern is stored correspondingly to the specified area and position of the three- dimensional shape (S205). When the plane or a uniform area similar to a plane is obtained over plural pictures, the plural pitctures are combined and one large picture is generated.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
