PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a maintenance information communication system between ATM relaying devices that can effectively utilize a channel rate and attain maintenance information communication at a low cost. ;SOLUTION: In order to attain a function of communicating maintenance information between the ATM relaying devices, a transmission circuit 103 of one ATM relaying device using a delay information conversion circuit 204 converts maintenance information sent from a maintenance information transmitter 105 into information of a cell delay, a transmission sequence schedule generating circuit 205 adds a delay to particular cell data among relayed cell data according to converted delay information and a cell transmission circuit 206 transmits cells to transmit maintenance information to a receiver of the other ATM relaying device. The receiver recovers the maintenance information by detecting information of reception delay fluctuations caused in the particular cell data subjected to delay control so as to make communication. Since it is not especially required to insert cells to the cell data for maintenance information communication, the communication system can effectively utilize the channel rate.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
