A system and a method for an intimate relationship between a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) and a Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS)

A system that has a PLMN and a WLAN IP GW, an IUR interface that provides handover between PLMN and the wip GW. The Mobile Internet Protocol (Mobile IP) provides session Management and Data Tunneling between the PLMN (Home Agent) and the WLAN. The WIP GW works as an external agent for the PLMN.The services are provided by the PLMN MIP through diameter for Registration, Authentication and Administration of Subscriber, that operate within the HLR / HSS and CGF in the PLMN. The use of a single Architecture to support flexible inter Operational scenarios is such that the less the IUR interface Architecture and MIP becomes a flexible inter Operational Architecture.The Platform of the UMTS PLMN Billing is done through inter Diameter / UMTS operation. Authentication is provided through the HSS / HLR of the UMTS PLMN. The concept of Architecture can be extended to cover the Inter operation of other Access Technologies with UMTS.
