PURPOSE: To provide a water purification system and a method for purifying thereof, which construct waterfall, pond, fountain and the like by using stored rainwater and purify water flown-out from the constructed water waterfall, pond, fountain and the like to recirculate the purified water to the waterfall, pond, fountain, thereby reusing resource. CONSTITUTION: The system (100) comprises a rainwater control device (40) that discharges initial few minutes of contaminated rainwater and stores the remaining rainwater, a rainwater storage tank (50) that allows the remaining rainwater of the rainwater control device to be flown therein and then stores it, a mechanical room (60) that pumps the stored rainwater out and supplies the pumped rainwater to an eco-pond (10), the eco-pond that is connected with the mechanical room to make aquatic animal and plant be inhabitable by using the rainwater supplied from the mechanical room and a purification pond (20) that is formed by a filter media layer where natural materials and a porous filter media are layered, is connected with the eco-pond and supplies water that is overflown from the eco-pond and then purified by passing through the filter media layer to the eco-pond or the rainwater storage tank.
