PURPOSE: A cell searching method in an OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) system is provided to encode FLPs(Fixed-Location Pilots) with MOCs(Mutually Orthogonal Codes) selected according to intrinsic ID cell indexes of each base station, and to search a cell by an ID cell searcher after receiving the encoded FLPs, thereby distinguishing a base station where a terminal is included. CONSTITUTION: An ID cell searcher(500) consists of a multiple MOC decoder(520) and an ID cell selector(510). The multiple MOC decoder(520) processes values of encoded FLPs, and outputs the processed values. The ID cell selector(510) outputs an input index having the biggest value among inputted signals. An FO(Frequency Offset) and CH(Channel) estimator estimates a frequency offset and a channel. An FO and CH compensator compensates for the inputted signals by using the estimated value. A variable position pilot extractor searches a position of a sub carrier used as a variable position pilot, and extracts information bits of the position.
