PURPOSE: Provided are a method for alkylating an aromatic compound by using a catalyst which is thermally stable and has a high selectivity for alkylation product, a alkylation system using the method, a product prepared by the method, and a downstream product prepared from the product. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the step of adding a catalyst which contains a styrene-divinyl benzene copolymer, a styrene-divinyl benzene-ethyl vinyl benzene copolymer or their mixture, is base-treated, sulfonated and halogenated, and is thermally stable, to reactants. Preferably the catalyst is surface-sulfonated and/or is acid-generated. Preferably the reaction is carried out at a temperature of 60-200 deg.C.
