PURPOSE: An external composition for treating skin disease comprising pyroligneous liquor and peppermint oil and a preparation method thereof are provided, which composition rapidly alleviates skin disease such as itching, bitten damage by insects or atopic skin disease, and fungal disease such as athlete's foot and dandruff, and is cheaply mass-produced. CONSTITUTION: The external composition for treating skin disease comprises 20 to 80 wt.% of pyroligneous liquor, 1 to 10 wt.% of peppermint oil and 10 to 79 wt.% of water, wherein the composition further comprises alcohol; and the composition further comprises 1 to 10 wt.% of surfactant. The method for preparing the external composition for treating skin disease comprises the steps of: collecting smoke of 80 to 150 deg. C from burned wood to prepare crude pyroligneous liquor; stationing or distilling the crude pyroligneous liquor for a certain period to prepare purified pyroligneous liquor; and adding one selected from peppermint oil and 1-Methanol into the purified pyroligneous liquor.
