PURPOSE: A PON(Passive Optical Network) system for a broadcast service and a method thereof are provided to reduce power of an optical amplifier used in an OLT(Optical Line Terminal) because a broadcast wavelength does not pass through a splitter, and thus, reduce a cost. CONSTITUTION: An OLT(410) receives a broadcast signal and uplink/downlink data, divides each optical wavelength of them, and transmits the divided broadcast wavelength and downlink data wavelength to a PON network and the divided uplink data wavelength to an Internet network. A broadcast module(403) passes the uplink/downlink data wavelength therethrough as it is, extracts only the broadcast wavelength, performs photoelectric conversion on it, and transmits a broadcast signal, which has been converted into the electric signal, through a coaxial cable. A splitter(404) splits the downlink data wavelength to various rates, collects the received uplink data wavelengths and transmits them to the OLT(410). An ONU data module(406) connected with the splitter(404) transmits the downlink data wavelength received from the splitter(404) to a terminal of a subscriber, and transmits the uplink data wavelength received from the terminal of the subscriber to the splitter(404).
