The writing tip (1) can move up and down inside a narrow bore in the housing (2). The bottom part (3'') of a C-shaped member (3) engages the top of the writing tip holder. A cutout (7) separates the bottom part from the top part (3') which incorporates a permanent magnet (5). The magnet may have a N pole at the top and a S pole at its bottom edge. It is attracted to the top (6) or bottom (6') arm of an iron rocker piece (4) which is hinged (8) at its midpoint. The iron rocker piece protrudes through a slot in the side of the pen housing. When the top end is pushed in, the writing tip is retracted. When the bottom end is pushed in, the writing tip is extended.
