The photonic crystal fiber has a center fiber (1) with at least two metallic conductors (2) along and close to it at diametrically opposed sides. The conductors are channels (3) filled with a metal. (1) and (2) are shrouded by air-filled channels and/or rods and/or dielectrics with an outer shrouding mantle (6).
