The method involves circulating fluid through heating and cooling pipelines (1,2) built below track bed or roadway (9) or within ceiling of a tunnel and through heat exchangers (12) connected to pipelines. Circulated fluid exchanges heat with e.g. mountain heat, exhaust gas emissions, in each heat exchanger, emitting geothermal heat to be utilized in the tunnel.
