Production of trialkyl monoalkoxysilanes of formula (I) by reacting an alkyl halide of formula (II) with magnesium and reacting the resulting Grignard reagent with a tetraalkoxysilane of formula (III), comprises performing the reaction in a dialkyl ether or hydrocarbon solvent and subsequently decomposing the resulting organomagnesium compound with an alcohol.
