Production of trialkyl monoalkoxysilanes (I) by reacting an alkyl halide (II) with magnesium and reacting the resulting Grignard reagent with a tetraalkoxysilane (III), comprises performing the reaction in a dialkyl ether or hydrocarbon solvent and subsequently decomposing excess Grignard reagent with an alcohol.
