In transparent optical transmission system (ASTM) with numerous optical transmission paths (OS1-6) with network nodal points (A-E), potential connection path is determined via at least one available optical wavelength channel. Signalling cost along potential connection path for each faulty attempt and connection resource cost value formed from it for each potential path. For connection set-up connection path with minimum cost value is selected.
