A seal for a sliding roof panel (7) of a vehicle has a tubular sealing profile (5) mounted on a spring loaded guide (4, 11) to press onto the side (9) of the panel in the closed position. The servo drive for the panel is linked to a retracting drive which pulls the seal away from the panel, and compresses the spring. The retracted setting is held by a locking catch (10) which is released when the panel is again in the closed position.
