A reference electrode for electrochemical examinations has a stiffened reference electrolyte and crossover, whereby a ring-shaped porous ceramic diaphragm (2) with an open porosity of 25-28% is integrated in an enclosed plastic shaft (1). Alongside the electrolytic gel (3) is a solid KCl reservoir (4) that is impregnated with gel and into which the reference element (5) extends directly. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) an electrolytic gel, e.g. of acryl amide; and (ii) an oxide-ceramic ring diaphragm.
