The safety device (1) uses at least one support device, e.g. an airbag (3), at the front end (4) of the automobile (14), which is moved from a rest position into a working position under control of a sensor device or following a collision, for providing a large surface area restraint wall (2) at the side of the automobile, guided to extend underneath a casualty before being deflected upwards and backwards for enclosing the casualty.
