Three types of images occur in video encoding in respect of motion compensation. Motion compensation is not used in respect of I-frames (I). A preceding I- or P-frame (P) is used as a reference image for motion compensation during compression of P-frames. In the case of bidirectional or B-frames, motion compensation is carried out with the help of preceding and subsequent I- or P-frames. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) A model for estimating hierarchical movement in priority stages for multiple video frames; (B) and for a method for protecting against loss in packets for single priority stages via an XOR-based version of a Cauchy code.
