The fuel cell system has a fuel cell unit (1) with several individual fuel cells (2) and a device (3) for determining at least a temperature of a surface region of the fuel cell unit. The temperature measurement device is designed to determine a temperature distribution of the fuel cell unit. An independent claim is also included for the following: (A) a mobile device, especially a vehicle, with an inventive system; (B) a mobile device, especially a thermal power plant, with an inventive system; and (C) a method of operating an inventive system.
