The system has a storage chamber (38) for storing the cooling water discharged from a cylinder block (10) in a sub thermostat housing. The sub thermostat (50) inside the sub thermostat housing has a temperature sensitive tube positioned inside the storage chamber. A connecting route (36) links the storage chamber to the cooling water path (22) of a cylinder head (20). The main thermostat (40) and sub thermostat are used to separately control the flow of cooling water from the cylinder block and cylinder head.
