Platen press (10) comprises a press table (12), a slide (11) that can be moved relative to the press table, and at least one moveable intermediate plate (18) arranged between the press table and the slide. A first tool (W1) is arranged between the slide and the intermediate plate and a second tool (W2) between the intermediate plate and the press table. The intermediate plate is supported via several hydraulic piston/cylinder units (22). The slide and the intermediate plate each have at least one path sensor (25, 26) connected to a control device for moving the slide and the intermediate plate in a mutual manner. An independent claim is also included for a process for controlling the above platen press.
