Measurement device has a sealed, pressurized and or heated process chamber (1) with a measurement window (5) in front of which is a measurement path. The measurement path is enclosed by a chamber (2) that connects to the measurement window and permits the setting of desired pressures and or temperatures. The measurement chamber system (11) used comprises multiple chambers with individual windows that can be set at different operating pressures and temperatures. An independent claim is made for a method for determining the properties, especially the intensity and polarization state of electromagnetic waves scattered from stray bodies, especially for determining the density, size or dielectric properties of the bodies.
