Method in which a test object is subjected to functional simulation of its actual operation and an airborne or solid-borne sound spectrum is detected using at least one transducer and converted into electrical signals. The signals are amplified and-or high-pass filtered and-or low-pass filtered so that at least one limited frequency range and or amplitude range of the processed signals is used to generate a trigger signal (28) associated with a specific error of the test object. An independent claim is made for a device comprising a processing circuit for acoustic testing of a test object to detect an error in its functioning.
