The system includes fuel supply lines (5-1,5-2,5-3) which lead fuel from a fuel tank (1) to a fuel injector (4) through a prime pump (2) and a fuel filter (3). A fuel return line (6) returns residual fuel from within the fuel injector to the fuel tank. A by-pass line (9) leads fuel from the fuel tank to the fuel injector, through the fuel filter but without passing through the prime pump. An independent claim is also included for a diesel engine motor vehicle.
