Diagnosis and monitoring of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is aided by: (a) measuring the amount of at least one soluble Abeta (x-= 41) peptide (I) in a test sample; (b) comparing the result with a predetermined amount of the same peptide; and (c) assessing patient status from the difference.
