Glycidyldinitropropylformal (IV) is new. Glycidyldinitropropylformal of formula (IV) is new. [Image] n : 10-40. Independent claims are also included for: (1) poly-(glycidyldinitro-propylformal) of formula (V); and (2) a method for the production of (V) by reaction of 2,2-dinitropropan-1-ol (I) with allyl alcohol (II) in presence of formaldehyde and boron trifluoride etherate to give allyl dinitropropyl formal of formula CH2=CHCH2OCH2OCH2CH(NO2)2CH3 (III), formation of the oxirane ring by reaction with m-chloro-perbenzoic acid and polymerisation of the resulting glycidyl compound (IV) in presence of butane-1,4-diol and boron trifluoride etherate.
