The method involves decomposing image sequence into video image sub-sequence. A mesh is effectuated on video images of the sequence and a coefficient is determined for each video image from a wavelet transform. Topology of the mesh of the images is associated with each video sub-sequence. Data signal with the associated mesh topology and information representing the coefficients is formed. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a method of decoding a data signal representing a video image sequence (b) a device for decoding a data signal representing a video image sequence (c) a data signal representing a video image sequence (d) a computer program stored on an information medium and having instructions permitting to implement a method of encoding video image sequence.
