A titanium dioxide structure is modified by a thermal plasma treatment at 2000[deg]C or more, prior to the formation of the photocatalytic material. The thermal plasma is generated at radio- or microwave frequencies, using an atmospheric plasma torch or a plasma under a fluidized bed. Toluene is taken as a reference organic pollutant. Operational conditions for treatment under thermal plasma are determined to reduce the time for elimination of toluene in the air, by 20%, 50% or preferably 100%, in comparison with use of material containing the same quantity of untreated titanium dioxide.
