The device has a processing unit to measure the magnitude representing idle running voltage of a DC motor (100). A switch (200) measures the voltage, where the measurement is started once the stop pulse starts arriving after a predefined duration. The duration and the ratio of marking pulse to stop pulse are modified according to change in the voltage magnitude with time. An independent claim is also included for a process of measuring idle running voltage of the DC motor.
