The device has a processing module that accesses a memory to determine a list of patterns defining organ, with which a virtual tool comes into collision. A control module controls the linking of stages of a surgical operation e.g. laparoscopic surgery. Each stage is associated with an action effected by the virtual tool to a zone e.g. peritoneum zone, and an eventual reaction associated with a validation stage. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a surgical operation simulation station (b) a method of simulating an operation in a zone.
