The process involves securing a document e.g. mail, by creating an electronic signature from the document content by encrypting a print of the content with a private key. The signature and a public key related to the private key are stored in a signature object. The secured document is verified by creating a print of the content of the document, and decrypting extracted signature with the public key. An independent claim is also included for an electronic device for securing and verifying a document that is established and electronically signed.
