The system has an electronic control unit (30) controlling knocking of an internal combustion engine (100). The unit obtains a remaining quantity of high and low octane fuels. The unit changes ignition timing and a fuel supply ratio between the fuels. The unit increases the supply quantity of low octane fuel without advancing ignition timing if the remaining quantity of low octane fuel is larger than high octane fuel. An independent claim is also included for a method of performing a knocking control to control knocking occurring in an internal combustion engine.
