The method involves detecting an alert event (101) by an alert detecting unit. Counting operation of alert distance stored in a processing unit is activated. An authorization event (110) or an eventual finishing of the counting operation is expected. The operation is deactivated and a new alert event is expected, in case of occurrence of the event (110). The eventual finishing is caused in case of movement of the vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a vehicle protecting device.
