Real-time determination of the mass of particulates in an automobile exhaust gas filter comprises performing a cycle of operations in which the mass is calculated from the mass determined in the preceding cycle
Real-time determination of the mass of particulates in an automobile exhaust gas filter comprises performing a cycle of operations in which the mass is calculated from the mass determined in the preceding cycle
Real-time determination of the mass (m c) of particulates in a particulate filter in the exhaust system of an internal combustion engine comprises performing a cycle of operations in which m cis calculated from m cdetermined in the preceding cycle as a function of the engine's particulate emission rate, the combustion rate of the particulates in the filter and the time between cycles. Real-time determination of the mass (m c) of particulates in a particulate filter in the exhaust system of an internal combustion engine comprises repeating the following operations at predetermined intervals: measuring the filter inlet gas temperature T(t) using a temperature sensor; measuring engine operation parameters (Ne, Q) using sensors; reading the oxygen concentration [O 2(t)], the nitrogen oxide concentration [NO x(t)] and the engine's particulate emission rate F(t) from pre-established tables as a function of the engine operation parameters; calculating the combustion rate V(t) of the particulates in the filter from T(t), [O 2(t)], [NO x(t)] and m c(t-delta t), i.e. m cdetermined during the previous cycle; calculating m c(t) as the sum of m c(t-delta t) plus [F(t) - V(t)] x delta t; and saving M c(t) for use in the next cycle.
