PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a leathery sheet esp. flexible and good in feel of touch wherein the leathery sheet is produced by impregnating a fibrous base material with an aqueous emulsion of elastic polymer. ;SOLUTION: This method for producing a leathery sheet wherein a fibrous base material is impregnated with an aqueous emulsion of an elastic polymer comprises sequentially (I) a step impregnating the fibrous base material with an aqueous solution of wettably infiltrative surface-active agent or an aqueous emulsion, (II) a step of impregnating the base material with an aqueous emulsion of the elastic polymer showing a heat-sensitive gelability at 30 to 70°C and (III) a step of treating the base material at temperatures higher than the heat- sensitive gelling temperature of the emulsion by ≥10°C to gel the elastic polymer and subsequently/simultaneously dehydrating the base material.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
