The device has an elongated wheeled framework provided for transporting a main runner. A scissor-type lifting mechanism is mounted on the framework, where the framework and the mechanism support a charge of the main runner. The mechanism is provided for holding the main runner and lifting or lowering the main runner between a lower transport level and an upper tapping floor level. The runner is in an operational position in front of a taphole of a blast furnace. A hydraulic cylinder is arranged within the framework and actuates the mechanism.
