The shock absorber at the brake stop system for a safety rope, used in work and mountaineering applications, has a brake body (1), with a stirrup (2), working with a brake cable (13) or ribbon, to take up the forces (17,18) on a fall. The brake body has at least two bars (5,6), and at least one of them has movement and with a variable gap between them. The brake cable/ribbon is passed through the gap between the bars, to form at least one loop (14) around them.
