Method for identifying a pig that is resistant to intestinal colonization by E. coli F18 that is capable of binding to ECF18R in pigs, said method comprising the following steps: a. determine whether a genetic polymorphism, in which a nitrogen base at position 307 of the alpha (1, 2) fucosyltransferase gene of the pig is adenine, or a polymorphism in allelic association with the FUT1 polymorphism that presents adenanine at position 307, is in a biological sample of the pig; e b. infer that the pig is resistant if the pig is homozygous for the FUT1 polymorphism or for a linkage unbalanced polymorphism with it.
