A gastrostomy feeding port (100) is dis-closed which includes a housing (20) and a re-silient valve member (10). Housing (20) de-fines an inner passageway (29) which providesfluid communication into a long term indwellingcatheter and includes a rigid compression collarportion (21) which defines a valve member re-ceiving cavity (22) within the inner passageway.Valve member (10) has a diaphragm portion (11)which has an "S" shaped slit (16) therethrough,and an outer peripheral edge which generally con-forms in shape to the valve member receivingcavity but is larger than the cavity when uncom-pressed, and an outer wall portion (12) which ex-tends away from the outer peripheral edge of di-aphragm portion (11). Valve member (10) com-pressively fits within receiving cavity (22) by ad-vancing outer wall portion (12) into cavity (22)to thereby cause the outer peripheral edge to becompressed to fit within cavity (22), with com-pression collar (21) pressing inwardly against theperipheral edge of a diagphragm portion (11) to biasslit (16) toward a normally closed position.
