MERCURY REMOVAL SORBENT AND METHOD FOR REMOVING MERCURY FROM FLUID STREAMS

A sorbent composition comprising a vanadium compound and a ZrO2 supportmaterial is disclosed. Methods of making and using the composition to removeheavy metals or heavy metal containing compounds from a fluid stream are alsoprovided. Such methods are particularly useful in the removal of mercury andmercury compounds from flue gas streams produced from the combustion ofhydrocarbon-containing materials such as coal and petroleum fuels.
