A fermented tea characterized by being produced by adjusting to a definite level the moisture content of fresh tea leaves (starting tea leaves) having poor qualities (for example, second plucked tea, third plucked tea, autumn-to-winter Bancha, Karibancha, etc.) from among starting tea leaves in a coarse rubbing machine (coarse rubbing step), transferring the tea leaves into a rubbing machine (rubbing step), adding Japanese medlar (Eriobotrya japonica) leaves thereto and rubbing together with the starting tea leaves, fermenting and drying. Namely, the fermented tea produced by rubbing starting tea leaves with Japanese medlar leaves and a composition containing an extract contained in the fermented tea as the active ingredient.
