PURPOSE: A processing method of a worm gear using a general-purpose lathe is provided to produce not only a worm with a large lead value but also a substandard screw by a cutting process, through the use of the general purpose lathe. CONSTITUTION: A processing method of a worm gear using a general-purpose lathe comprises steps of numerating consecutive values on the basis of a unit of at last three places of decimals, supposing each value as a pitch value, setting up the optimum change gear group, and setting up the optimum change gear group by each value(a); calculating a pitch value of an axial right angle standard from the basic condition value information of the worm to be processed(b); selecting a change gear group corresponding to the most approximate value to the calculated pitch value and applying the selected change gear group to the general-purpose lathe(c); calculating a processing error and a pressure value of the axial right angle standard from the basic condition value information of the worm to be processed(d); making the upper and lower surfaces of a bite shank inclined, to incline the tip of a bite(14), in a transfer direction of a tool rest(13), at an angle formed by a tooth surface and the normal of an axis on a pitch line of the worm gear; and executing processing by mounting the bite to the tool rest according to the set conditions.
