The stator of the electric motor has alternate broad (1) and narrow (2) segments. The dovetail joints (4) have tongues on the narrow segments extending into undercut grooves in the broad segments. The broad segments have broad salient poles (3) which may carry field coils. There are narrow salient interpoles between the broad poles.
