Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell stack for vehicles comprises single cells separated from each other by metallic bipolar plates, electrically insulated end plates, metallic current deviating plates and electrical heating elements
Polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cell stack (1) comprises three single cells (2) separated from each other by metallic bipolar plates, two electrically insulated end plates (6, 6), two metallic current deviating plates (7, 7) and electrical heating elements arranged between the end plates and the current deviating plates. The heating elements are supplied with a current from a single cell arranged in the region of the middle of the stack. The heating elements are in thermal contact with a neighboring metallic current deviating plate. Preferred Features: The end plates are made from a thermally and electrically insulating plastic made from amorphous or partially crystalline high temperature thermoplastic material, preferably polyimide, polyetheretherketone, thermoplastically processed PTFE or polyphenylene sulfide. The plastic is reinforced with fibers.
